Caregiver Program

Caregiver Program

Both the Home Support Worker Pilot and the Home Child Care Provider Pilot are five-year pilot programs that let qualified caretakers and their families to immigrate to Canada with the intention of settling here permanently.

This program will allow Home Child Care Providers to enter Canada on temporary work visas with the option of applying for permanent residency once they have sufficient work experience.

Your family members may come to Canada with you as well. They can apply for a work or study permit.

You may be eligible to apply for the Home Child Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot, if you:

  • You must care for children in your own home or in your employer’s home
    • The location can’t be an institutional setting such as a daycare
  • You don’t need to live in your employer’s home to qualify
  • Experience as a foster parent doesn’t count for this program.

Home support worker (NOC 44101)

Depending on your situation and the volume of relevant job experience you have, the application procedure will vary.

The pilot caps reset on January 1, 2023

In 2023, IRCC accepted up to the following number of applications in each category:

As of January 1, 2023, you were eligible to submit an application for the Home Support Worker Pilot and the Home Child Care Provider Pilot under the 2023 limits.

The Gaining experience category has, however, hit its entry cap for both online and alternate format submissions. In 2024, the online application period for this group will reopen.
