The open work permit scheme in Canada is being extended and expanded for Hong Kong citizens.
Canada is extending the application deadline and increasing eligibility to Hong Kong residents who have graduated from a post-secondary institution in Canada or overseas within the last ten years.
The extended deadline to apply for an open work permit for qualified Hong Kong residents is February 7, 2025.
Spouses or common-law partners, as well as dependant children, may apply for a study or work permit.
Furthermore, the Canadian government has established two paths to permanent residency for qualifying Hong Kong candidates and their families.
Stream A: Graduates from within Canada
Stream B: Work experience in Canada
This policy will remain in place until August 31, 2026.
